So as you might have guessed from the title, potty training is not going well in my house. I am at a complete loss as to what I should be doing with number three. He is just not interested in the potty and far too big to still be wearing diapers or training pants.
I feel as though I have tried everything and now I am asking for help. I was thinking that I would do a "potty chart" with stickers and reward him with something special if he finishes it but I am just not sure as what I am really going to do. I am so frustrated that I have no idea what to do.
He has done things that number one and two never did so that makes it even more difficult. They were both fairly easy potty trainers, I put them in big boy/girl undies and it was pretty much over. Number three, not so much. I have taken him to the bathroom every hour on the hour and just ended up with him pulling down his pants and peeing on my stairs or pooping on the floor.
Something has got to give because potty training is winning now and that just can not be. I am willing to accept any ideas that any of you might have.

I know it is hard, but maybe just lay off it for a while. I had one who did not want to potty on the toilet. She just wanted it HER way. I made it a non-issue for a while. I also would do things for her brother because he wore BIG BOY pants and went POTTY. And then I would just let it go. I would reward him and just ignore her while doing it, while making a big deal about HIM going potty. (Mind you, he was in on it because he was 6 when she was 2 1/2). Also, how old are your other ones? Can an older child show the younger one and make it a game? (I'll go then YOU go) Sometimes it is a power struggle and the kid ends up winning because it is such a touchy issue - you don't want to scare him off, but you don't want him wearing a diaper at the age of ten either.
ReplyDeleteI explained to my 6 year old son that I was going to make a big deal of him going to the bathroom, and then I hung a bag of treats on the door of the bathroom, out of reach, and he got one when he came out each time. When Jamie wanted one, I said No, it is only for kids who go potty and then walk away. It may still take a while, but really, he will eventually do it. Chin up!!!
